Preparing Your Face for the Big Day

5/3/11

I've come to the conclusion that a wedding isn't just about that ONE day where you tie the knot.  It's more so about the preparation, looking for vendors, figuring out how to put things together, and most importantly...spending time with your close friends/family.

And when I say preparation...I'm also talking about "beautifying" yourself.  This includes for some losing weight, toning their bodies, dying their hair, getting facials, etc.  Well, today, I'm going to be talking about the importance of getting a facial done before the wedding day and its reasons.  I've had a couple people tell me about getting one done before the big day hits, so I'm thinking this must be something important right?

What is a facial?
A facial basically includes a variety of skin treatments such as steam, exfoliation, extraction of white heads/black heads, creams, lotions, face masks, peels, and massages.

Why get a facial?
The Make-up Factor:
Getting a facial done is especially important for those who have really oily skin and want to get rid of any pimples, black heads, or white heads.  One thing you want to avoid is having make-up caked onto your face to cover several or lots of blemishes.  First of all, I believe the more natural the better.  Secondly, having a lot of foundation and concealer on your face isn't very comfortable for a long period of time.  My hair dresser was telling me that she recommends this to all brides because she's seen the results of "caked on" make-up due to lots of blemishes on the face.  Even if you have dry skin you should get one...which I have.  If your skin is too dry, your make-up won't soak in as readily or easily.  That's why I always put lots of lotion on before putting on any make-up.  It just helps cling onto the make-up a lot faster.   When I was getting my hair/make-up trial, one side of my face was drier then the other.  My make-up artist had to keep putting on more foundation on one side so of my face so it would appear.

The Cleansing Factor:
Other then the make-up factor, facials definitely help rejuvenate your skin by getting rid of bacteria, old/dead skin cells, and helps promote the growth of new skin cells.  Also, usually the person doing your facial will give you expert advice on which lotion products are best suited for your skin.

Don't Wait Till the Last Minute:
If you've never gotten a facial done before...DON'T wait till the week before to get one done.  If you have sensitive skin like me, you want to avoid any new products on your face in case you get an allergic reaction to something.   I would recommend going in 2-3 months beforehand to try it out to see if your skin reacts ok with whatever products they use.

I love facials! I've always gotten one every year for my birthday, but I'm sure I will get another a few weeks before the wedding!
